Race for the Cure
Race Information
Background
The Susan G. Komen Atlanta Race for the Cure®, celebrated every spring on Mother's Day Weekend,
serves as the premiere fundraiser for the Greater Atlanta Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
Started in 1993 with just a few hundred participants, the Race has grown steadily to more than 13,000!
We are now celebrating our 18-year anniversary!
The Race is one of the largest races in Atlanta. Those who can't run or walk are invited to partake in
cheering on the women and men in the Race by joining the crowd along the race course.
Drawing participants from all over Georgia, the Race primarily attracts participants from the Atlanta
area. The Komen Race for the Cure® Series is the world's largest and most successful education and
fundraising event for breast cancer. Since its origination in Dallas in 1983, the series has grown
from one local race with 800 participants to an international series of 114 races with more than 1.3
million participants.
