GRANTEE SPOTLIGHTS: Making a Difference!

Each month Komen Atlanta will feature one or more of its 2010 - 2011 grantee organizations. The feature stories are from organizations that have experienced a major achievement, overcome a milestone or went above and beyond the call of duty to contribute to the breast cancer community.

October Spotlight:

The Women's Center at Spivey Station offers Southern Crescent women the diagnostic and breast health services they need in a convenient, easily accessible, relaxing and modern atmosphere. They understand how busy life can be and strive to go out of their way to help address women's health needs in a manner that is least stressful for them. They offer same day or next-day appointments, walk-in services until 4:15pm daily and results within 24 hours or less.

Through funding provided by Komen Atlanta, they have supplied free screening and diagnostic mammograms, ultrasounds, ultrasound guided biopsies, core biopsies and lymphadema DME supplies to over 144+ patients this grant cycle.

They have numerous events planned during the month of October to promote Breast Cancer Awareness that include "Survivor Day", "Pink Day", Smoothie King "pink" smoothies and pink ribbon badges to fill out and display in their center to hang "In Honor" and "In Memory" of all breast cancer patients. All monies donated during the month of October will go towards the Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure in May 2011.
